Are electric vehicles more environmentally friendly than gasoline or diesel vehicles?
Electric vehicles do not produce CO2 emissions while in operation, but their carbon footprint depends on the source of electricity used.
If the electricity comes from renewable sources such as wind, solar, or nuclear power, CO2 emissions are negligible.
However, if the electricity comes from coal, emissions can exceed 100g/km. On average, electricity production generates approximately 60g/km of CO2, which is about half of the emissions from gasoline vehicles.
