What are D and B and regenerative braking, and how do they impact my driving?
The D stands for drive mode, where electric vehicles operate similarly to standard automatic cars.
The B is for brake mode, where EVs decelerate rapidly when the accelerator pedal is released, almost allowing for driving solely with the accelerator pedal.
However, this results in a loss of momentum. This mode increases regenerative braking, converting kinetic energy into electrical energy during deceleration.
It’s worth noting that some EVs don’t have a B position but instead feature small paddles on the steering wheel.
We strongly recommend driving in D mode to maintain familiarity with the vehicle’s behaviour.
